A History of Les Sylphides

Hi Beauties,

Dance in the moonlight to Chopin’s orchestrated music with a short 1-act choreography sequence from the ballet, Les Sylphides. This abstract ballet premiered in Paris in 1909, choreographed by Michael Fokine and centered on mood and dance alone. The original cast included ballet stars of the time, Anna Pavlova and Vaslav Nijinsky.

The story of Les Slyphides is a simple one of a lone man, the poet, surrounded by woodland nymphs, Sylphs, dancing in the moonlight.

In 1972, New York City Ballet premiered Chopiniana, a stripped down version of Les Sylphides, named after the original ballet, and choreographed by Alexandra Danilova.
