Meet the Trainer: Audrey Marinda

Hi Beauties! Let's give a warm welcome to our newest team member & trainer, Audrey Marinda!

Ballet Beginnings

When and how did you start dancing?

I started dancing in my hometown Berkeley, California at 3 years old. I first danced at a small studio called Shawl Anderson, where I first took ballet and modern classes. My mother danced and recognized how much I enjoyed moving my body. She started my dance education by teaching me how to stretch, do the splits as well as count music, and improvise.

What made you fall in love with dance?

I fell in love with dance because of how special it made me feel to watch and do it! It's so magical to see a story being told through the body. I always thought it was so cool that dance was a universal language that anyone could understand just by watching. There's nothing more freeing than dancing to a good song.

What is your favorite dance memory?

One of my favorite dance memories is having the opportunity to be Clara in the San Francisco ballet's production of The Nutcracker it was a huge honor to take on that role and dance for thousands of people every night knowing that all eyes are on you as you take the audience on a journey through the land of sweets!

Which ballets have you performed in? What was your favorite role?

I have performed in several versions of the Nutcracker, Romeo, and Juliet D’isoline by Helgi Tommason, La Sylphide by Bournonville,  Western Symphony by Balanchine, Fandango by Anthony Tudor, Missing by Jeremy McQueen, and many other wonderful ballets.

What is your greatest strength as a dancer?

My strength as a dancer is always trying to be a positive creative force in the space.

What is your favorite ballet?

One of my favorite ballets is “The Concert” by Jerome Robbins, a comic spoof of a classical music concert. The setting is an all-Chopin recital where the attendees allow their decidedly imaginative minds. Leading some dancers to go off script and cause some chaos. Its an incredibly silly Ballet

What is your favorite go-to healthy food?

I love a bag of trail mix, I always have some nut, dried fruit mix in my bag. It's easy, on the go and nutrition to keep my energy up.

What is your favorite indulgence or treat?

Chocolate Lava cake with whipped cream and berry sauce is my absolute favorite indulgence!

What is something interesting about yourself that we wouldn't expect?

I am a plant Mami, I love learning about medicinal plant medicine and herbalism.

When you're not dancing, we can find you?

When I'm not dancing you can find me hanging outside at a park with friends, going to a shows, or trying a new restaurant!
